TODD KIM LARSEN

Todd Kim Larsen was born August 28, 1966, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Kim and Geri Larsen. He passed away at City of Hope Hospital in Duarte, California, on Oct. 16, 2010. Todd was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on September 18, 2009, and died from complications following a bone marrow transplant. Todd spent his first seven years in Utah, Idaho, Washington and Oregon because of business opportunities being offered to his father. The traveling finally came to an end in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The first glimpse of what would soon become a long list of talents appeared when Todd was 8 years old. He ran for the Duke City Dashers which was, at the time, the #1 youth track team in the nation. He continued participating in numerous types of athletics throughout his schooling, but his true talent was in Track and Field. During his senior year at Alta High School in Sandy, Utah, he set the state quarter mile record, which remained unchallenged for a number of years. This accomplishment earned him a full ride scholarship to Brigham Young University. During that same year, Todd participated in the National High School Decathalon Championships, where he took 2nd place. The fascinating story that comes out of that decathalon competition occurred during several hours between the two-day event. The young man who placed 1st took lessons from Todd in improving his height in the pole vault. The consequence was—Todd came in 2nd place. Always a teacher and definitely a great sport! As a boy, Todd was very active in scouting, obtaining his “Arrow of Light” award in Cub Scouting and then his “Eagle” award in Boy Scouting at the young age of 13.

Todd was voted “The Most Talented” by his high school senior class. He possessed profound musical abilities and was active in many musical groups and school choirs. Additionally, from his early teen years until 2005, Todd was a member of several performing rock bands. Shortly after college Todd moved with his family to Mesa, Arizona, where he enjoyed working as the assistant track and field coach at Mesa Community College. During this same period, he coached the Alta Mesa Marlins, a youth swim team. A few years later he coached the Val Vista Gators, a swim team in Chandler,

Arizona. Also during his years in Arizona, Todd organized, arranged music for and performed in a 7 man a cappella vocal group called “Reliance.” He had a love for musical theatre, starring two different years in “Westside Story” and, in “Anything Goes” while in college. Todd then moved to Southern California where he performed for a year as a singer in Disneyland's “The Hunchback Of Notre Dame.” He then had the opportunity to portray many characters at Tokyo Disneyland, including Prince Charming and Bert from Mary Poppins. After his return from Japan, he coached swimming for the club team, Novaquatics. He also coached for the Irvine Swim League, first for the Heritage Park Seals and then, for the past seven years, the Northpark Riptide. In 2007, he was the recipient of the Irvine Swim League Coach of the Year award. Todd applied his vast musical talent to teaching Orange County youth when he began offering private music lessons in 2002. Purely by word of mouth, what started as a small hobby quickly turned into a growing business. Todd created a private music school, the Irvine Music Academy, where he offered private lessons in guitar, bass, drums, piano and vocals. His focus was not only on fostering talent in young musicians but also on teaching them about the music business. Through auditions, he created multiple skill-based youth bands. In their respective bands, the students were taught responsibility and time management as well as collaboration and communication skills. Whether coaching, swimming, or teaching music, Todd loved working with “his kids.” Todd and his wife, Kelly, were married in Phoenix, Arizona, on April 22, 2006. They were blessed with many beautiful years together and thousands of priceless memories. He is survived by his wife, Kelly, his 22-month-old son, Garrett, his canine companion, Molly, his parents, Kim and Geri Larsen, his brother, Tyler Larsen, and his sisters, Tiffany (Joseph) Hale and Tina (Ryan) Pini. Todd will be missed by everyone who knew him and loved him.

Lisa McMains is putting together a book of letters from our children to Garrett - please have your kids write a letter to Garrett about the impact Todd has had on their lives - so that Garrett will know how his father shaped, molded and influenced our children's lives in such a loving and positive way. Please have the letters handwritten by the kids, and include any notes/photos or anything else you want to include and drop them off on Lisa's front porch

Our Sweet Todd

Our sweet Todd passed away early this morning. We can't begin to express our sorrow. He fought so hard right up to the end. We can find solace in knowing that he is free of pain and tubes now. He must be so glad for that. We will post announcements for the funeral procedings here.

Todd is in the ICU. He has multiple infections is being put on dialysis and a ventilator. Please pray for him!!!!! Heavenly Father hears our prayers and I know if it is His will that Todd pulls through this, he will. I believe in miracles.

Hello Friends and Family,

It has been so long since I posted a message on the blog and I am very sorry for that. As Tiffany said, Todd is still at City of Hope. Since our last discharge and subsequent readmission, there have been numerous occasions that we were close to being discharged. But then some virus/fungus/bacteria would wreak havoc on Todd's fragile body and we would need to stay. Going into the BMT process we knew that this would be a very difficult journey with a lot of ups and downs, but we could not have begun to imagine the challenges that would come our way. However, with all the bad that this treatment throws at us there is always good. We are cancer free!! and Todd's blood components are almost completely the donors (which means BMT success and better chances for long term remission). And I guess, in the big picture, that is really all that matters :)

As of today, Todd is doing well. He is eating and working hard to regain his strength. Although, he still has good days and bad days, everyday I see a little more of Todd's feisty personalty peek through. He misses all of our friends and especially his "kids." Thank you everyone for your thoughts, prayers and support!

Hello friends and family! I wanted to give you a quick update on Todd. He is EATING!!!!! We are so happy. His appetite has returned and he is gaining some weight back. He is still at City of Hope. It's amazing to me that we expected him to be home last April or May and he is STILL there. Every time he gets close to getting out of there something pops up or goes wrong. Poor guy. He is on an emotional roller coaster ride. They have him doing physical therapy daily. He can't go very far without needing a walker or wheelchair. This process is so slow. He needs to be more self-sufficient before they will release him. They are also still reducing some meds before that time. He will be going to a rehabilitation center when he is released. This will be great. He will be able to regain strength through rigorous physical therapy. We don't know how long he will be there. We have learned not to plan on anything when it comes to Leukemia!

After the results of a recent bone marrow sample, Todd is in full remission! We are so happy!

Yea for Todd's body!!! This is such a blessing! He loves hearing from you and seeing you. Thank you so much for your love and prayers. He has really needed those prayers this year! Speaking of that, it has been a year since his diagnosis. Can you believe it? So much has taken place since then and we are all changed because of it. Thank you for being with us on this journey. We love you!

Update on Todd

I wanted to update you on Todd.

Todd is back in the hospital. He was out for one day. Poor guy! He spent a week in ICU again, but is in a regular room now. He is trying to get over Pneumonia now among a few other things. He has got to gain weight and build up some strength before he can go home. We do hope he will be well enough soon. When he is released he will be living in Pasadena for a while. I was just out to visit him with my sister this last week. It was sooooo good to be with him. It is amazing what he has endured! He has a very long road of recovery ahead. He loves hearing from you. Todd's Recovery

Hello again,

I want to let you know how Todd is doing. He has had some good days, which is so GOOD to see. He has felt well enough to answer his phone! woo hoo! He still has a virus he is fighting off and he is trying to be interested in eating. If these two things fall into place they will be able to release him. They are both slow going, so we do not anticipate him going anywhere just yet, but we are all hopeful that it will be sooner than later. He would LOVE some (healthy please) visitors. You can call ahead of time and make sure he is ok for company. The number at City of Hope is 626-356-4673. The address is 1500 E. Duarte Rd. Duarte CA, 91010.

Quick Update

Hello wonderful friends,

It has been a while, I know. The road has been bumpy and I have wanted to spare you all the emotional roller coaster ride.

Todd is STILL in the hospital. He cannot be released until he can keep a good amount of food down. This is the biggest problem, but there are others too. He is hangin' in there, but some days are better than others. Please send your love! He would love to hear from you. He is on twitter, and he checks his email and phone from time to time.

Todd's Status

Todd is on the roller coaster ride of his life. Everyday brings a new set of challenges. He is out of the ICU now and back to his regular room. Yay!! His mystery bleed healed and is causing no more drama. His symptoms, though terrible, are mostly to be expected. He continues to be very nauseated and has an incredibly sore mouth. (Intubation surely added to that) If you have been trying to get in touch with him to no avail, don't feel too bad. I promise he is not screening you out. He is unable to talk most of the time and the other part is filled with nausea. I have been able only a couple of times to catch him and he was pretty groggy from his medications. We are keeping a pretty good record of all the crazy things he is saying though! ha ha
Some good news is that he is making new, healthy white blood cells. Things seem to be going according to plan.
Todd is still Todd under all of this junk, and we know he loves you and is so grateful for you and your thoughts and prayers in his behalf!

Hello All,

I wanted to report on the outcome of the poker tournament.

We had ~35 participants who competed for nearly $2,000 in prizes. The top four “card sharks” were:

1st Place: Erik Ludovico
2nd Place: Andy Ujiie
3rd Place: Carrie Deverian
4th Place: Kim Gebrosky

It was particularly fun to watch Carrie ruthlessly knock off her husband and father over the course of the event!

Due to the extraordinary generosity of the winners (most of whom re-gifted portions of their winnings), contestants and families who directly donated, we were able to collect $2,250 for the Larsen’s! The whole event left me “royally flushed” (sorry couldn’t help myself).

Special thanks to Brad Freedman, who dreamed up this event. Erik Smith, Brad Freedman and I enjoyed putting this together and are glad everyone had so much fun!

Tomorrow is "Day 1"

To our family and friends,

Tomorrow is the beginning of a new chapter in our story. In the BMT world, the day after the transplant is known as "Day 1." To us, it means we have made it over the mountain and we are on our way down. It is the start of the journey toward healing and a life long remission. The last six months have been unbelievably difficult, yet so very blessed. Todd and I know that we have made it this far because of you. There were times when life was entirely too overwhelming, but then someone left a card on our door, brought us dinner, or helped us pay our bills. So often we were carried by the generosity of those that love us. And for that we will be eternally grateful and humbled.

Looking forward...the next few weeks are going to be tough. The nurses are doing an amazing job of keeping Todd comfortable as his body heals and accepts the stem cells. We are praying for limited graft vs host complications. Overall, he is in good spirits and is doing everything he can to stay strong and healthy. We will do our best to keep everyone posted on the recovery process.

City of Hope: The first day

Well, blood has been drawn, temperature and weight recorded and IV's hooked up...the new leg of the journey has begun! Todd received his first radiation treatment this morning and is doing well. He will get irradiated (scary word) two more time today and eight more times over the next 3 days. Then the chemo begins. He is going to feel pretty awful, but as his tweets/FB have said, Todd is ready for a fight!

Next stop...City of Hope

I just finished a battery of pre-tests over the last three days at City of Hope and the next step is transplant. I'm being admitted this Sunday February 21 and will then undergo 4 days of full body radiation followed by a week of chemo. This is to knock my immune system down really low and wipe out my bone marrow completely. I will receive my bone marrow transplant on March 2. (My new 2nd birthday) It will be like a blood transfusion.... 3-4 hours of getting someone else's stem cells and then it's a waiting game of making sure my body and the new cells "get along". There is a risk of Graft vs. Host disease, but my doctor has ways of minimizing that and/or combating it if it happens. I am a little scared but I am in good hands. I will be watched closely by my doctors for about 100 days after transplant and then return home to finish recovering for another 6-9 months.
I am so grateful we are at this point in this battle and that someone has agreed to give of themselves and donate to me. It is literally saving my life and I don't even know who they are. Yet. I will be given that opportunity in about a year.
It is a scary thing to have a life-threatening disease. I never thought I would know what that feels like. It has changed me. I see how precious and fragile life is. My list of "what's important" has changed a bit too. All we truly have are each other and when I think about all the people who have done so much for me and my family over the last 5 months I am blown away by the love and compassion shown to us. It reaffirms that we do only have one another and those solid, loving relationships will help us through anything that we are faced with. We are all so fortunate to have such a strong community of amazing people around us. It really does take a small army to take on this thing called life and TOGETHER we will KEEP GOING!

I have a transplant donor!

Kelly and I visited City of Hope on Thursday and my Doctor told us they have found a great donor for me. We are so excited!! The transplant process will start in mid February. While at C of H I will undergo more chemo and full body radiation right before the transplant.
I will be in the Hospital for about a month and then closely monitored on a daily basis for another 3-4 months. We will be transplanting the whole family to the Pasadena area for that time. They said it would be about a year after transplant when I can start teaching again. It takes that long for my immune system to fully recover.
We know that we are so blessed to be at this point. Thank you so much for all the prayers! We couldn't be doing this without all the help everyone has given us.
I want to thank all the kids for all the letters, home-made cards, emails, facebook wishes and tweets. They all brighten my day like you wont believe! I miss you all and I miss teaching you so much. Thank you everyone!!

It's been so long

Yes, it's me, Todd, finally blogging once again. Sorry it's been so long but December was a cruddy month to say the least. So...Here's the latest...

I got my 4th bone marrow biopsy this past Monday the 11th and the preliminary results are back showing no leukemic activity! I'm in remission!! The next step is a bone marrow transplant at City of Hope. They are working on finding a match for me. They have located 3 domestic and one international close matches. Not perfect, but close. The Doctors are trying to figure out if any of them can be used for a successful transplant. They also have cord blood for me if I need that. Kelly and I are going to City of Hope next Thursday the 21st to meet with the transplant team and plan what comes next. Either the team will have a donor for me and we move to Pasadena for four months during transplant or I hit Hoag again for another round of chemo to stay in remission until they find a donor match. We are hoping to get the show on the road here.....but we'll know more on the 21st. Thank you for everything you are doing to help me and my family through this rough time. We could not do this without all your prayers and help. Thank you!!

Recycling Results!!!

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out Saturday, December 5th in our efforts in the Collection Cans to Crush Cancer! We had over 150 families participate Saturday, December in our recycling drive to raise funds for the Larsen family. With everyone's help, we were able to raise $1037 to go directly to the Larsens. We now have raised well over $2000 in two drives -and we're just recycling cans and plastic bottles! With all your love and support for the Larsens and such a easy program to get the kids involved in every month, this drive continues to grow and bring in new donors, volunteers, and funds!

We wanted to send everyone a big Thank You for your support! As we enjoy the Holdiays, let's not forget all the wonderful blessing we have with our families, our friends, and our communities! Today, let's start over to raise even more money for the Larsens in January!

Our next drive will be after the holidays - we're thinking Saturday, January 9th. You will receive updates throughout the holiday. Please encourage your neighbors to help this special cause. Recycling Pick Up!

The Crushing Cans for Cancer team is getting ready to do its second pick-up in Northwood Pointe, and our first one in Northpark. The date is set for Saturday, December 5th from 8 am to 9:30 am.

We’ll have our Community Champions in Northwood Pointe out early to pick-up the recyclables left out by our Volunteers at their door, and we will re-assemble at Meadowood Park to separate, bag, and load into a huge truck to go to the recycling facility.

The Northpark team will be doing its first drive the same day, and at the same time at the Club House in Northpark. Volunteers can either come to the park before 9:30 am with their recyclables or have their recyclables out by 8 am for pick-up on Saturday morning. If you choose to leave them at your house, Northpark Community Champions will canvass their neighborhoods and pick-up what is left out. If you’d like to participate in the separating and bagging, please come to the Club House area and we’ll be set up at 8 am to finish up the drive.

The Northwood Pointe volunteers will be by at 9:30 am to pick-up the Northpark contribution to deliver to the recycling facility.

Thank you to everyone for the time and donation. Northwood alone last month raise over $900 for Todd and his family, and we’re hoping to smash that this weekend. See you there!

Happy Thanksgiving

This time of the year especially, we are reminded to voice what we're thankful for. My heart is so full of thanks that I just have to blog it to all of you.
I am most thankful for my amazing wife Kelly. We are, without a doubt, going through this together. She is dealing with all of this so well and I cherish our relationship and admire her abilities to hold our world together. Then there's our darling son Garrett. My life changed when he came along. He's turning one next week and already walks, plays the air guitar and dances every time he hears music. What a rock star!
Family is the most important thing in the world to me. I have been so fortunate to have my family around me every step of the way. My parents have made countless trips from Phoenix to be by my bedside, fundraisers and events.
My sister Tiffany has done so much including setting up this blog and fielding every email, call that comes through it. Not to mention traveling to attend and help manage the events. Tiff, you rock!
My sister TJ who's been on bed rest with her second child who has called or emailed me just about everyday with love and support. She also handmade all those cool orange purse and cell phone charms and jewelry that so many of you now own.
I am so lucky to have the best in laws in the world too. My Mom in law has been so helpful with Garrett and my home care by pushing water on me, making me meals and taking my temp. Patty, thank you so much for your love and help!
Hillary, Kelly's sister is living with us and is so helpful with Garrett. I appreciate her so much and can't thank her enough for all she does for us.
I am thankful for all my friends who are so involved with helping us with fundraisers, meals, love and prayers. Kelly and I are so grateful for all the people doing so many wonderful things for us on a daily basis.
I must tell every one of the kids that I have coached or taught over the years how much I miss you. You are the reason I do what I do. I love working with kids and I really miss being a part of their lives as I go through this. It's gonna be a while still, but I will be back and we will pick up where we left off!

Getting closer to transplant-City of Hope

Kelly and I visited City of Hope last week and met the team that will be helping me through transplant. We were so impressed with the staff and facility. I will be in good hands for sure. The plan is...one more round of chemo at Hoag this month then off to COH for one last round of chemo and a dose of full body radiation. At that point I will be ready for transplant. Of course we have to find a donor match but the doctors are hopeful we will find it on the registry. The search is going on right now so get on the registry! I will be at COH for about 4 months while being closely monitored. They tell me it will be about a year after transplant and I will be able to start working again and get on with my life. Yeah!

Getting ready for round 3

I was surprised when my doctor let me come home so early after round two. I was expecting to be in the hospital several weeks but it ended up only being a week. He was confident I could recover at home just as well. That made me happy. Any chance I can spend with my family I'll take it! (plus my bed at home is a lot more comfortable)

Unfortunately, we found out that my sister Tiffany is not a Bone Marrow match. That made her sad....Tiffany, don't worry, I still love you ; ) My other sister TJ will be tested and we'll see if she's a match. If not, we'll go to the National Bone Marrow Registry. Have you registered yet?? My doctor said it is common that siblings don't always match but you find one on the registry. Please register! You may save a life. Maybe even mine. There's some bragging rights for you.

I got the staples out of my head last week and it's healing nicely. The Ommaya reservior will stay in forever so I'll always have a little bump on my noggin. Oh well, once my hair grows back you'll never know it's there.

After getting 3 units of platelets and 2 units of whole blood, my counts started climbing rapidly. That's a good thing. Thanx to all who have donated blood and platelets in my name. You rock! My doc says I'm doing great and I'm set to go in for round 3 on November 30th. I get to celebrate Thanksgiving and Garrett's first birthday at home. Woo hoo!!

A huge thanx to everyone involved in the incredible fundraisers thus far. We are so humbled at how amazing our community is. We love and appreciate all of you who are helping us through this tough time. We could not do it without you all.

Our first Recycling day!

This is an email I received from Robin Edmond...

Over the weekend, Northwood Pointe had their first recyclable pick-up for Todd. On Saturday, we picked up cans plastics in over 80 homes on the Northwood Pointe side, and were able to raise $809 for the Larsen’s. As this is an on-going effort, we plan on having another pick-up in 2-3 weeks again. Please recycle your plastics and aluminum cans for this drive. We hope to continue to get the kids involved and have many more drives throughout 2009 and 2010. God Bless Todd!

Ommaya Reservoir

An Ommaya Reservoir is a small plastic device used to carry medicine to fluids in the brain and spinal cord. It also allows samples of cerebrospinal fluid (fluid around the brain and spinal cord) to be taken
for testing. I get one! So lucky!

Here I am as a mummy. Fitting for Halloween don't you think? This was the night before my surgery...

You can see the dots on my head where they attached the immobilizer during surgery.

Now chemo can be dropped straight into my brain and spine. The staples will come out in a couple weeks.

Recycling for Todd

After several weeks of planning, enlisting volunteers, and donors from Northwood Pointe, the Collecting Cans to Crush Cancer team is ready to do their first pick-up in Northwood Pointe on Saturday, November 7th at 8 am. If you have signed up to donate plastics and aluminum cans, please leave them in front of your house next Saturday morning. Please do your best to separate the plastics from the aluminum (and remember, no glass). Trucks will drive through each neighborhood to collect the donation and redeem it into Cash for the Larsens. For the last 8 years our coach Todd Larsen has been coaching children in our community. Over this period Todd has trained hundreds of children in swimming and music. Even if he hasn’t trained your children we’re sure they know someone he has trained. Unfortunately in September Coach Todd was diagnosed with Leukemia and will need to undergo a bone marrow transplant. On that day of his diagnosis, he had to stop all of his coaching activity, which is his entire source of income. Coach Todd is married and has a 10 month old son. Coach Todd is our HERO.

Another Miracle!!

Hot off the press..
Todd and I just received a call from our Doctor. Based upon early results of a BM biopsy done yesterday, the lab found NO new blasts in his marrow. AMAZING news! Basically, after the first round of chemo his body is growing only healthy cells. This does not change the course of treatment and does not mean we are out of the woods. What it does tell us is that we won this battle and that the cancer can be tamed...

Good blood test

I had a blood test yesterday and the numbers were near normal. My Doctor was pleased and so was Kelly and I! That means the chemo is doing what it's supposed to be and my body is doing what it's supposed to- building new "good" cells. I will have another bone marrow biopsy on Thursday to see how clean my white blood cells are. the Doctor is expecting good results based on my blood work. I'm really enjoying my time at home. I wish I wasn't tired all the time but just being here is wonderful. Thank you every body for your love and support!

Change of plans

This roller coaster ride is crazy! Yesterday I was told we were starting round two-today is a different story. I'm actually coming home!! The Doctors were baffled as to why my white counts were still leukemic. It's not normal after phase 1 chemo. After digging deeper they found I am still in a down trend in my chemo regimen and my counts are still dropping. So, what that means is the bad cells are still going away rapidly and my recent bone marrow biopsy was a little premature. (and I hate those things) I will get yet another biopsy next week that will be a better (more timely) test of what's going on. I am excited to get out of the hospital and be home with my family! I will have to be very careful being around people. Especially now during the flu season. Masks and Anti-bacterial hand wash is a must. But I can live with that. Thank you for the love, prayers and support! Miracles happen!!

Bone Marrow Registry

You can register yourself with the bone marrow registry this weekend in Irvine.
You must be 18 - 61 years of age to donate. They will swab your cheek with a q-tip. Easy! They will still be setting up at the two upcoming events, but this will allow everyone to get the ball rolling now - it takes 4-6 weeks for them to complete the matching process. When you register, you need to put Todd's name down I also want you to know the process of donating bone marrow is much like donating plasma or platelets. Thank heaven for modern medicine!!

Help Our Coach- Recycling

A recycling program has been set up to raise money for Todd and his family during this difficult time. The goal is to get the children in his community involved in helping Coach Todd. Please go to recycle.help-our-coach.org/ for information on how you and your children can get involved. We hope to start the program in October and need about 60 Community Champions to help with the distribution of our flyer to all the 3,500 homes in our community (North Park and Northwood Pointe) and with the pick up of containers when the program gets going. Round Two..Ding, Ding

After the first round of Chemo my blood counts started climbing...which is a good thing. But, the white blood cells that my body was producing ended up being "evil". Over 50% were leukemic. This means that my cancer is VERY aggressive and I need to start round two of Chemo immediately. Obviously I've got a fight on my hands. But as Kelly reminded me, everything I do is 150% so why not this too. My attitude is there is only one option - Beat this monster! We're looking at a bone marrow transplant much earlier now. We are making plans to get to City of Hope as soon as we get the green light. My sisters Tiffany and TJ will be tested for a match and we'll replace my bad cells with good cells. Then my new cells will start to do what they need to do to get me home for good.

14 days and counting...

The first two weeks have had its ups and downs. When I am on chemo I feel run down and sick, but when I am not...I feel fantastic. My appetite and taste buds have come back and all in all I am feeling pretty normal. Monday I will get my second bone marrow biopsy to see how my cancer cell growth is slowing. As for now, I am in a neutropenic precautionary status...which means no fresh fruit, veggies or raw foods due to bacteria. Because of my low immune system I am very susceptible to disease and infection.

I love the contact with everyone via email, twitter and comments on this blog site. You help keep my spirits up and remind me of what is most important in life...friends and family. A HUGE shout out to all my kids! Keep Rockin', swimmin', and just being the great kids that you are!

Todd's Diagnosis

On Friday, September 18th, Todd went to the emergency room with a swollen leg. It was determined that he had DVT or deep vein thrombosis for an unexplained reason. They did a blood test, which showed his white blood cell count to be extremely elevated. This lead to the diagnosis of Leukemia. After MORE tests, we learned that he had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia or ALL. ALL is an aggressive and rapidly spreading type of Leukemia that is most commonly found in children. His Doctor informed us that he probably didn't have the disease for more than a couple of weeks! We were shocked...so much can happen so fast! Todd started his chemotherapy on Sunday, September 20th and will receive his last dose for this round on the following Friday. From there we will see what happens...

It's been a little over a week now of being in the same room...which is pretty boring. I've had a near non-stop IV drip of various drugs (chemo, anti-nausea, steroids) and saline. Other than a rough morning yesterday, I feel better than I thought I would. Today I feel weak, run-down and just all around worn out. But that is to be expected. Most of the time I'm not thinking about why I am here. However, occasionally the surreal thoughts creep in. Like "I have Leukemia" and "I am in the hospital for a really long time". It's so weird! My main goal is to stay positive!

Kelly told me about the meeting this morning and I am totally blown away. I can not thank you enough for all the time and effort you are putting into ensuring my family is provided for.
